I am often asked for tours of my pens. Unfortunately, with NPIP disease management, I cannot give tours in person. This is to protect the chickens from outside sources of contamination (shoes and clothes can sometimes carry disease). However, I hope these pictures help.
Pens have metal at the top and bottom to protect the chickens from outside predators.
You will also notice that I try to always maintain enough greens in the growing season to provide chickens with plenty of greens in their diet in addition to their grains.
Electric fencing runs along the entire outside of the pens to further deter predators.
Augustus or "Auggie" was our pet donkey for many years. He was such a delight to have around the farm and always welcomed visitors with a loud bray. He was the biggest baby we had on the farm. Auggie had adopted us as a part of his herd. He would come up for snuggles and hugs and would always be ready for a treat or a scratch. We miss you, buddy!
